Police board adopts governance policy - DiscoverMooseJaw.com - Local news, Weather, Sports, Free Classifieds and Job Listings
The Moose Jaw Board of Police Commissioners officially adopted a governance policy at their board meeting on Thursday. The document outlines procedures and how the board conducts itself. The document includes the board’s mandate and how meetings are run. “Even embedded in the governance policy is a piece on code of conduct and conflict of interest. It gives us, again, a reminder that every year we do a board self-evaluation, that we do an appraisal of the Chief's performance, things like that,” said board chair Mary Lee Booth. The document also outlines in-camera meetings, saying that they will be held when items are identified by The Police Act, 1990, and the Local Authority Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act that require confidentiality. Previously, there was no written record on what the board’s roles and responsibilities were or the board’s mandates. “Day-to-day, the board has been doing some of these practices, but as we all know, when it's written, it gives it a different dimension and it holds us just a little bit more accountable. So, it is good practice for governance,” Booth said. The Moose Jaw Board of Police Commissioners Governance Policy is a public document and will be post on the Moose Jaw Police Service’s website.
